Andrews is the County Seat (and only town) of Andrews County located on east-west highway State 176; north-south highway U.S. 385, and northeast-southwest highway State 115. Andrews High School offers a comprehensive curriculum including academic studies for the college bound with advanced courses in several areas, a variety of vocational courses, physical training, and extracurricular activities, as well as, local Vocational and State Industrial Job Training Programs. Continuing a long history of academic and athletic excellence, Andrews ISD is in the final stages of a 2002 $30.2 million bond construction project. Improvements included major renovations/additions at the Andrews Middle School and Andrews High School. In addition to the new High School Baseball Field and major upgrades to the already famous Mustang Bowl Football Stadium, The Andrews High School Performance Center, scheduled to open in the Spring of 2007, will feature a new 1,000-seat Concert Acoustic Auditorium, a 2,000-seat gymnasium and a first-class natatorium. Three-fourths of Andrews High School students participate in some type of extracurricular activity; a substantial portion of the bond construction is aimed at enhancing facilities in these areas. Most recently, in May 2006, Andrews voters elected to pass yet another $18.5 million bond to reconstruct two aging elementary campuses. Andrews Business and Technology Center
The Andrews Business & Technology Center held its Grand Opening on January 5, 2006. This highly advanced training center is intent on meeting the growing needs of both the local workforce and providing post-secondary educational opportunities. It was a significant partnership with Odessa College, UTPB and College of the Southwest, the City of Andrews and Andrews County. It offers state-of-the-art technology for distance learning. In addition to upper and lower division classes, vocational training opportunities will be provided. The Center is well equipped with a Science Lab, Nursing Program Facility, Multi-Computer Labs with Interactive Capabilities and a Video Conferencing Board Room. Andrews is committed to quality education at every level!

Economic Development Sales Tax:
In May 2005, the voters of the City of Andrews passed a quarter percent sales tax increase by an overwhelming majority of 81.3% (highest known percentage in state). The revenues generated by this sales tax increase will be used for the development of new and expanded business enterprises. These revenues from the 4A sales tax will ensure a source of long-term funding for offering financial encouragement to businesses interested in Andrews. The basic purpose of the Andrews Economic Development Corporation is to help facilitate the creation of new, quality jobs, through expansion of existing companies and bringing new companies to town.
The Andrews Volunteer Fire Department has existed for over 58 years. During that time the department established an enviable record for its professionalism and dedication with its expertise in fighting oil field fires as well as structural firefighting. The department also provides top-notch rescue services for any rescue situation that might occur in or around Andrews County. The members of the department take great pride in the quality of service provided to the entire community.
The department also maintains a hazardous materials response trailer. The trailer is equipped with level A, level B, and level C personal protective gear. Decontamination equipment for use on emergency response personnel and civilian victims is also carried on the trailer. The department has 10 members that have been trained for hazmat response with continuing update training while other members of the department are being trained for hazmat response. The department's primary focus in hazmat responses is for the safety of the civilian public as well as emergency responders. The department can contain small to moderate hazmat releases and mutual aid response from the City of Odessa Fire Department's hazmat team for larger incidents is available.
The department boasts one of the best response times for a volunteer fire department in the state and compares well with paid departments.

The City of Andrews Police Department and the Andrews County Sheriff’s Office oversee public safety of Andrews County. Since the City of Andrews is the only city in Andrews County, the two entities work closely together ensuring the public safety of both the city and county is well served, maintaining the low crime rate that places Andrews in the lowest 10% of the 77 communities of comparable size in Texas.
Health Care Permian Regional Medical Center
Permian Regional Medical Center, located at 720 Hospital Drive, has rapidly become a center which provides services to not only Andrews, but eighteen counties in West Texas and eastern New Mexico. Quality of care and qualified staff are terms which have become synonymous with the facility.
Permian Regional Medical Center consists of an 85-bed acute care facility which maintains the high standards set by JCAHO; a 90-bed long-term care facility; a Rural Health Clinic with three physicians and two nurse practitioners, an active Home Health, Physical Therapy services, a full-service Lab and digital Radiology department which offers CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Mammogram services and an obstetric / LDRP unit performing 400 deliveries annually. We are also proud to note that we have an ICU/CCU department as well as an Emergency Department that maintains a Level IV Trauma designation.
PRMC has continued to modernize its facilities, equipment and expand and upgrade the services offered. Today, the facility is considered one of the best in the Permian Basin.
For the convenience of their patients, PRMC has also opened an “Express Care” clinic that is operated in conjunction with our emergency department which is staffed by qualified physicians 24 hours a day.

The Permian Residential Care Center:
The Permian Residential Care Center opened in the fall of 2004, providing a new, resident-friendly long-term care facility with 90 beds. Our Senior Activity Center and County Youth Recreation Center also offer many recreational facilities designed to meet the needs of all ages. A variety of recreational opportunities for the youth of Andrews are available such as baseball, basketball, football, cheerleading, tennis, volleyball, softball, and soccer. The programs have produced, among others, collegiate All-American and NFL running back Shaud Williams. And throughout the year, various organizations in the community offer adult recreational events and leagues. In addition to existing recreational facilities, Andrews County has pledged $3,000,000 to the construction of a Multi-purpose Agricultural Complex which will open its doors on August 12-13, 2006, as host to the annual Heath Hamilton Memorial Roping Event.
Residents enjoy a number of public parks conveniently located throughout Andrews. Andrews County offers many acres of community parks and athletic fields containing outdoor grills, picnic grounds, playgrounds, softball fields, as well as basketball and tennis courts. You can take a brisk walk around a park, jump into a refreshing indoor or outdoor swimming pool, fish at City Lake, play tennis all day and night on one of our lighted tennis courts, or just take advantage of the wonderful climate for gardening.
Arts & Entertainment
Andrews Independent School District offers many avenues for cultural outlets through their local drama, music and arts programs. In addition, the community is exposed to many cultural and art events through local committees and organizations. Residents can participate in family-oriented theater productions or display their talents during the annual Andrews Art Guild Show. The Andrews Art Guild Association offers venues for the many talented area artists whose works include pottery, painting, sculpture, and photography.
There are two Bluegrass Festivals held in Andrews each year. The first festival, sponsored by the West Texas Bluegrass Association, is held in June.
The second Bluegrass Festival is always held Labor Day Weekend, sponsored by the Andrews Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodges. Both festivals are held at Andrews County (Florey) Park, 9 miles north and 1 mile east of Andrews.

Texas Workforce Commission reported an average weekly wage during 4th quarter of 2003 for all covered wages and salaried employment in the Andrews County region to be $612.00.
In Andrews County, Texas, a worker can expect to earn a median cash salary of $25,445 or $12.25 per hour. Half of the people in this job earn between $17,230 ($8.30 per hour) and $40,280 ($19,35 per hour) (i.e. between the 25th and 75th percentiles). An entry level worker can expect to earn $15,135 ($7.30 per hour) while an experienced worker can expect to earn $41,935 ($20.15 per hour).
